Music Mix: Youth Consultation

sound futures' Youth Consultation programme runs weekly at Shard End Community Centre. Bringing together young people from across the four wards, this developmental programme combines facilitated consultation sessions with music-making activity. The programme is run in partnership with Shard End Neighbourhood Support and the Jigsaw Initiative.

Phase One

The first phase saw five young in each ward engage in outreach music activity focused on creating original compositions about their own community and lives. This was followed by a group day, where the four wards came together to share their music and to collaborate on a composition for Hodge Hill, resulting in the tracks being broadcast on internet radio and being performed at a Jigsaw community event.

Phase Two onwards

The group meet weekly at Shard End Communtiy Centre to experience, evaluate and influence project activity. The group are currently exploring music production and composition, and have an opportunity to voice their ideas and feelings through interactive sessions. As the consultation develops, young people will begin to take the initiative themselves, designing and developing user-led activity.
